Rangers boss Michael Beale has promised a summer rebuild after their 1-0 loss to Celtic effectively ended their season. Jota’s goal from Daizen Maeda’s cross put an end to their trophy defense and put their Old Firm opponents on the track for a domestic treble thanks to a defensive blunder. Beale, who took over for Giovanni van Bronckhorst during the World Cup break, anticipates that his team will look very different when the new season begins.
“I believe it will be evident at the conclusion of the season that we were unable to produce. The club will undergo its largest reconstruction in a lot of years during this time,” Rangers boss Michael Beale said. “You must be courteous; you enter knowing that there will be changes, and each time you attend a news conference, people question you about it. I have a group of players who I need to steer towards progress and inspire for the games. It goes without saying that I won’t criticize or expel anyone. But it’s also clear that as summer approaches, there will be some changes. It would be improper to refrain from asking the same questions if you haven’t received any news about certain players since if you don’t hear anything, that usually means that someone’s contract is set to expire and that there will likely be a change of plans.”
“Big matches typically come down to razor-thin margins, and I believe we just made another mistake and gave up a goal. The game has been quite unfair to us. We had important situations that we didn’t execute in the second half, but I believed we took the game to Celtic,” he added. “You cannot have that much play where you can make a mistake and get away with it in big games. We have long believed that we pose a threat. Similar to the cup final here, we did a lot of nice running in the second half and had chances, but we aren’t taking advantage of them. All of the things you wanted to happen—opportunities on their end, ball possession, being able to pressure them—happened.”
