Millwall kept up the pressure for the playoff places as they produced one of the most comfortable football scores of the weekend in the Championship. The Lions closed the gap on their top-six competitors to just two points thanks to goals from Andreas Voglsammer and Zian Flemming. When Hassane Kamara was dismissed in the 38th minute, the home team was reduced to 10 men, although they were utterly outplayed on their own field.
After just one minute, Jake Cooper narrowly missed connecting with a Flemming cross as Millwall made a strong start. After six minutes, Daniel Bachmann came dangerously close to handing the south London team a goal when a clearance effort ended up at Tom Bradshaw’s feet. When the forward’s follow-up attempt was palmed away, the Watford goalie made amends right immediately. After 14 minutes, George Saville’s drive from the edge of the box was saved by Bachmann, and Murray Wallace hoisted his effort just over the bar. After 22 minutes, the visitors earned a goal when Bradshaw passed to Voglsammer, who struck low past Bachmann for his first goal while wearing a Millwall jersey.
Five minutes later, the German nearly doubled the score as he pounced on a Cooper header and forced the Watford goalkeeper into another save. Watford appeared disorganized, and their problems were made worse when Joao Pedro had to be replaced by Yaser Asprilla after 35 minutes. Three minutes later, Kamara collided with goalkeeper George Long, and they were reduced to 10 men.
After the restart, Millwall continued to exert no apparent pressure. Twelve minutes after the half, they made a push for a second goal, and Bachmann had to stop a long-range Saville shot. After 64 minutes, Voglsammer appeared to have given his team the second goal they deserved, but his looped effort was diverted onto the crossbar and away. With just a one-goal disadvantage, Watford was never out of the game. A minute later, some desperate tackling from the Millwall backline prevented Ismaila Sarr from scoring.
