Manchester City has confirmed that Kyle Walker has undergone successful groin surgery. In Sunday’s 6-3 derby victory over Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium, Walker was taken off during the first half. Walker had a groin ache before the game that grew worse throughout it, forcing him to leave the field just before halftime. Walker’s prospective return has not been given a timetable, but it is known that both Walker and Man City still think the right-back will play in the World Cup. Walker, 32, has a reputation for being a “quicker healer” after prior injuries, but his availability will depend on how his body responds to the procedure, with the following two weeks being crucial.
“As players, we must understand that accidents happen in the sport we love. I had a successful operation on Tuesday, so I can now focus on recovery and regaining my previous level of fitness. I’ll do everything I can every day to assist my teammates,” Manchester City right-back Kyle Walker said.
Due of Walker’s speed and the fact that the injury can’t be treated while the player is still on the field, Man City has decided to have the operation now. On October 20, well in advance of FIFA’s deadline of Sunday, November 13, Gareth Southgate is anticipated to announce his 26-man squad for Qatar 2022. At the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha, where Germany’s Qatar 2022 campaign gets underway on November 23, England plays Iran in their opening World Cup group match on November 21.
