Tom Bradshaw made it four in two games as he helped Millwall produce one of the close football results of the weekend in the Championship. Ashley Barnes’ goal in the 51st minute, his second in as many outings, appeared to be the difference on Tuesday evening in south London. Yet Bradshaw held his cool five minutes from time to score his 11th goal of the season and lend credence to the Lions’ play-off bid. Millwall moved up to fifth place after a thrilling 3-2 win against second-place Sheffield United on Saturday, but Burnley leads the Blades by 12 points. The visitors controlled possession in the early minutes, probing slowly from side to side, but it was their high-pressing that resulted in the first opportunity.
Scott Twine pounced on a sloppy touch and swiftly passed it to Barnes, who immediately passed it to Anass Zaroury, whose shot bounced off keeper George Long’s legs and just wide. Barnes got his first sight of goal soon after, volleying off target from Vitinho’s cross. However, the hosts were hunting for a counter-attack danger, with Zian Flemming firing an audacious lob from just past halfway over the bar. Millwall grew into the game as the half progressed, with Flemming trying his luck from distance again in the 37th minute, with Arijanet Muric saving the powerful strike. Burnley’s Twine also let fly from the edge of the box, fizzing his attempt past the post.
Burnley’s lead was almost increased 10 minutes later when Josh Brownhill’s half-volley hit the base of the post. The offside flag saved the 23-year-blushes old’s two minutes later when he put his first-time effort wide from eight yards out. Six minutes after the break, though, the former Swindon midfielder provided the breakthrough, playing a beautiful one-two before his shot ricocheted into the path of Barnes, who poked home. Andreas Voglsammer had a goal-bound effort blocked as Millwall pushed for an equalizer, but no clear-cut chances presented themselves until the 85th minute. Bradshaw was loitering near the penalty spot, and when the ball broke to him from Flemming’s cross, the 30-year-old struck low into the bottom corner.
