England Women and Arsenal Women star Beth Mead have signed a new contract with the club. The striker, who has 61 goals in 166 club games and 29 goals in 50 international matches, is now recovering from a major knee injury she sustained during Arsenal’s 3-2 home loss to Manchester United. Mead, who played a key role in England’s victory at the Euros in the summer, has scored three goals in the WSL and two in the Champions League for the Gunners this season. In addition to being crowned player of the competition and winning the Golden Boot with six goals, she was also selected Ballon d’Or runner-up last month.
“I’m overjoyed to have extended my contract with Arsenal. This club is home to me since I have developed tremendously both as a player and a person here, and I am confident that we can do even more in the years to come,” Arsenal Women forward Beth Mead said. “I want to compete for the biggest trophies in the game, and I know that Arsenal shares my objectives. As a result, I can’t wait to return to the field and contribute to the success that our supporters have earned.”
“The fact that we’ve reached a new agreement with Beth is fantastic news,” Jonas Eidevall said. “She has demonstrated on the grandest platform of them all that she is a world-class football player. I am so inspired by the way she has handled success and adversity on and off the field over the past few years, and I have no doubt that she will tackle the upcoming few months with the upbeat outlook we have come to expect from Beth.”
