Manchester United is set to make a formal approach to Chelsea over the transfer of Mason Mount. He is one of many midfielders United is reportedly considering this summer in what is considered a priority position, and it is believed that internal negotiations over a potential bid are still ongoing. Personal terms are not anticipated to be an issue if an agreement can be reached. In June 2024, Mount’s Chelsea contract is set to expire. Manchester United has contacted him on many occasions about his potential availability this year, and his challenging circumstances at Stamford Bridge have given them hope.
Prior to having surgery for a pelvic ailment that kept him out for the remainder of the season, Mount last appeared for Chelsea in April. After the disappointing season concluded with a 1-1 tie against Newcastle United at home on Sunday, he looked to be bidding his goodbyes. Since making his senior squad debut, the 24-year-old Chelsea academy graduate has won the Champions League and Club World Cup. Additionally, he included their loss to Liverpool in the League Cup final on penalties the previous year as well as three consecutive FA Cup finals. Mount began the Euro 2020 final loss to Italy and has played 36 times for England.
“I find it incomprehensible that Chelsea let Mason Mount leave for Manchester United. We saw that with Antonio Rudiger, one of the top defenders at the club, last season,” Paul Merson said. “He requested more money, but they refused to give it to him. Later, they purchased Kalidou Koulibaly for £33 million over a four-year period, which is more than they would have paid Rudiger.”
A £30 million offer from Brighton to sign Levi Colwill permanently has been flatly rejected by Chelsea. The youthful center-back will not be sold by Chelsea this summer. The offer matched Brighton’s club-record acquisition of Joao Pedro from Watford, who has already signed. Colwill made an impression when on loan at Brighton last year, but it appears that incoming Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has ideas for him. He is regarded by many coaches and scouts as developing as the best young left-footed center-back in England.
