Luke Shaw believes that his England and Manchester United teammate Harry Maguire is criticized more than ever seen in football. Maguire was at fault for two goals in their 3-3 draw against Germany. After being dropped by Manchester United this season, his place in the starting line-up has come under question. Maguire was booed during a friendly win against Ivory question and a month later had to have his house swept after receiving bomb threats.
“Both as a player and a person, Harry excels. Perhaps more than any football player I have ever watched, he has drawn a lot of criticism. He is always there and never runs away. Many people opt to hide their identities and stay out of the public eye. He continues to bring attention to himself, displaying his power and character,” Luke Shaw said about teammate Harry Maguire. “He is reputed to be a fantastic player. He may not feel secure right now since he may believe that no one is on his side. Even if it’s challenging for him, our staff and teammates are all standing behind him since he’s an important player. It shows how confident Gareth is that he played in both games [this week]. Just have a look at what he did at the Euros.“
“It unmistakably demonstrates Gareth’s confidence in me. The first two games [this season] weren’t good enough from a club perspective, and of course,” Shaw added. “I can only continue to cheer for the squad, put in my best effort, and wait for my chance. When I want to play, it will be more difficult if I put my head down and act carelessly. It’s up to me to continue working hard, maintain training well, and ideally simply wait for the chance. I must also continue to understand my condition.“
