Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has been given permission by the club to hold talks with Tottenham. On Monday, Postecoglou and Spurs will hold negotiations. Brendan Rodgers and Jesse Marsch are two candidates Celtic has put up as Postecoglou’s prospective replacement. Between February 2019 and February 2016, Rodgers managed Celtic for two and a half seasons before leaving the Bhoys in the middle of the campaign to become the manager of Leicester. Just a few weeks before his departure, the Northern Irish manager won the Scottish League Cup and the double-triple at Parkhead. Since being fired by Leicester earlier this season, Rodgers has been jobless, and Marsch is still seeking for a way back into football after leaving Leeds.
The news that Tottenham will formally ask Celtic for permission to talk with Ange Postecoglou after their 3-1 victory over Inverness at Hampden Park on Saturday was first published last week. Spurs wanted to show respect for a significant matchup for Celtic, and Postecoglou stated that the Hampden Park championship game was his only priority in the weeks leading up to the event. The other candidates Spurs have identified as intriguing for the position are Luis Enrique, Roberto De Zerbi, and Marco Silva. De Zerbi, the head coach of Brighton, is eager to take over the team next season as they get ready to compete in Europe for the first time in their history, thus he is anticipated to reject any proposal from Spurs, should one come.
After the club confirmed the departure of Karim Benzema over the weekend, Carlo Ancelotti declined to comment on reports linking Real Madrid to Harry Kane. Kane is widely believed to be the France forward’s replacement at the Santiago Bernabeu after Benzema left Real one year before the conclusion of his contract. Kai Havertz of Chelsea is another candidate that Real is reportedly considering, according to Sky Germany. Hugo Lloris, the captain of Tottenham, said he “desires for other things” and is thinking about what life would be like at “the end of an era” away from the North London club. The 36-year-old’s deal would keep him at Spurs until the conclusion of the next campaign.
