Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has called for respect during the minute’s applause for Queen Elizabeth on Sunday. After last week’s postponements, a tribute to the late monarch will be held across all the games. St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson is hopeful that both sets of fans show respect at the time of the applause. A section of Celtic fans displayed banners during their Champions League game.
“As a football club, we’ll abide by the obligations in the most respectful way. We wore black armbands on Wednesday night – and that was sort of lost on people,” Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou said. “If it is a minute’s applause, we will abide by that, and we’ll do it in the most respectful manner because I think that is the football club we are and want to be. What we always try and do is portray ourselves as a football club that is respectful and understands its obligations.”
“With all these things there are regulations and authorities in charge and that’s why they’re called investigations. If it’s proven that we did the wrong thing and there are ramifications, we’ve got to accept those ramifications,” UEFA said in a statement after Celtic fans displayed banners about the Royal Family. “We represent a large supporter base worldwide and we want to do things in the most respectful way that portrays our football club in the right light. Whatever you do you should be allowed to express whatever opinion or feeling you have.”
