England Women head coach Sarina Wiegman revealed that she is in talks with the FA about her future. After winning the previous competition while in charge of the Netherlands in her former position, Wiegman guided England to Euro triumph, and rumors indicated that a deal about new terms had already been reached. She has, however, made an effort to refute such allegations while gushing over her connections to the team and the FA.
Following Friday’s 2-1 victory against the Americans at Wembley, England has defeated the three teams ahead of them in the world rankings—USA (1st), Germany (2nd), and Sweden (3rd)—since the summer’s beginning. Wiegman argued that England must yet demonstrate their superiority before they can assert that they are the best, using the next World Cup in Australia and New Zealand as the yardstick for their abilities.
“We have had wonderful conversations, and I already have a contract that runs through 2025. We are at a terrific place, and I feel really valued. However, football can change very rapidly, and we still have a few competitions to play in together before then,” England Women head coach Sarina Wiegman said. “I just hope we can maintain our happiness. I’m happy, the team is pleased, and the FA is happy. With 10 months left, things are going well. We must continue to advance if we are to perform admirably at the World Cup. We constantly work to improve, and I believe the Euros helped us gain some confidence. It certainly helps when you defeat the USA; we observed some positive developments but also some areas for improvement, which is also quite exciting.”
