Karen Carney, Eni Aluko, and Katie Chapman have been the latest inductees into the Women’s Super League Hall of Fame. The three England internationals have been honored for their efforts both on and off the field to advance women’s soccer. They follow in the footsteps of Fara Williams and Rachel Yankey, who joined the exclusive club last year and are now the first two members, together with Kelly Smith and Emma Hayes, the manager of Chelsea.
Known as “The Wizard,” Karen Carney had a distinguished career that included nine seasons in the WSL with Chelsea and his local team Birmingham City, as well as a brief stint at Arsenal. After the 2019 World Cup, Carney’s Lionesses career will come to an end, making her the third-highest appearance maker for England in history with 144 caps.
Before having stints with Charlton Athletic and Chelsea, Aluko started out with Birmingham. When she returned to Chelsea for a second term in 2012, it was the time in her career when she experienced the most success. She won two WSL championships and two Women’s FA Cups during this time. The former Lioness, who represented her nation more than 100 times in several World Cups and European Championships, concluded her playing career at Juventus before announcing her retirement in January 2020.
With crucial roles in central midfield for each team she played for, including Arsenal and Chelsea, Chapman’s career accolades are practically unparalleled. She won three Continental Tyres League Cups, four FA Cups, and four league championships in the seven years she spent playing in the WSL.
