Man City Women have confirmed that their players will no longer wear white shorts due to concerns during the time of their periods. Following conversations with the players, the club and the maker of City’s uniforms, Puma, declared they would start using a different color scheme in 2019. However, City has already made that decision and will now play the remainder of the season in their burgundy away shorts and home shirts. The first time they accomplished it was in the 6-0 Conti Cup triumph over Blackburn on Wednesday night. After West Brom, Stoke, and Scottish team Livingston, City is the most well-known women’s football team to have changed shorts.
“In order to support our players and create the optimal environment for them to feel at ease and deliver their best efforts, Manchester City and Puma take delight in working closely with them. In response to player feedback and the underlying issue of women wanting to cease wearing white shorts when on their periods, we have made the decision to modify the things we offer to our female players. After the 2023–2024 season, we won’t be providing white shorts to our female athletes. We will always provide an alternative for our home, away, and third kits in order to solve the issue brought up by women in all sports.”
After England’s 1-0 victory against Austria in their opening match, forward Beth Mead stated that the Lionesses, who competed at the victorious European Championship last summer, had voiced their reservations to Nike about the team’s all-white uniform.
