Norway scored a late winner to produce one of the narrow football scores in the friendly midweek action. Leo Ostigard’s opening goal was canceled out by Alan Browne before Omoijuanfo scored his maiden senior international goal to give the visitors the win at the Aviva Stadium. It was a blow to Stephen Kenny’s team, who had recovered from a lacklustre first half to appear to be the team with a better chance of winning after the interval. They are aware that they have problems to solve before beginning their Euro 2024 campaign in March with a difficult match against France when they go for Malta on Sunday.
When Mohamed Elyounoussi slipped before he could shoot after weaving his way into the penalty area 12 minutes before halftime, the home team was fortunate, but they were not so lucky with five minutes left in the half. In order to head Martin Odegaard’s corner beyond Gavin Bazunu and give Norway a deserving lead, Ostigard perfectly timed his run to move in front of John Egan. Callum O’Dowda missed a headed opportunity at the far post, but it was his cross in the 69th minute that gave his team the opportunity to get back into the game.
Despite Orjan Nyland’s best efforts, Ostigard could only head the ball to Browne on the edge of the box, who fired a sliding shot inside the post. Omoijuanfo, a substitute, scored the game-winning goal in the last seconds after Nathan Collins mishandled a free-kick from Odegaard in the 85th minute.
