It was a typical mid-table clash as Hull and Preston produced one of the goalless football scores of the weekend in the Championship. At the MKM Stadium, a great brawl between two mid-table sides ended all square, with neither team able to provide the required inspiration in front of goal. Liam Rosenior’s side has now gone six home games without defeat, while North End has now gone four games without a win. Preston manager Ryan Lowe will be concerned by the first-half performance, but it was another point earned on the road. Following Wednesday’s home draw with Luton Town, Lowe made three changes. Ben Woodburn, Ryan Ledson, and Liam Delap all made their way back into the starting lineup.
The Tigers made four changes from the team that was severely thrashed at Norwich in midweek, with Greg Docherty, Xavier Simons, Ozan Tufan, and Dimitrios Pelkas coming in. Both teams politely held a minute’s silence for the people affected by the catastrophic earthquake in Turkey, Acun Ilicali’s hometown, and Syria. After beating Alfie Jones, Delap blasted a powerful shot into the side netting for the visitors. Cyrus Christie, an Irishman, got the opening chance for the Tigers, but he shot wide.
Colombian striker Oscar Estupinan forced a good save from Freddie Woodman with a scuffed shot, and Docherty could only head Pelkas’ fine throw from the resulting corner over. Woodman’s excellent stop on the stroke of half-time to keep out Docherty’s deflected shot after a scramble meant the visitors went into half-time level. And Woodman was at it again after the restart, keeping Pelkas out. From Tom Cannon’s pullback right before the hour, Troy Parrott could only shoot wide of the mark.
North End kept threatening, and Brad Potts sent a shot over the bar as Lowe’s men sought to break down the door. Tufan did well to generate an opportunity for himself, but he only struck straight at Woodman. Alan Browne went in search of his fourth goal of the season, but his long-range effort flew over the bar, and Lowe’s visitors sought to steal a late winner, but Matt Ingram saved Alvaro Fernandez’s header.
