Swansea is now winless in their last five games as they produced one of the goalless football results of the weekend in the Championship. The Huddersfield goalkeeper Lee Nicholls, who fell out of favour under Russell Martin at MK Dons, was in brilliant form to maintain an amazing clean sheet, which disappointed Swansea manager Russell Martin despite his team having 74 per cent of possession and the most of chances. The promotion-chasing visitors, who had drawn three of their previous four games, put more pressure on the Terriers, who had won at QPR in midweek, in the second half. Danny Ward’s goal-bound attempt was stopped on the line by Swans defender Ben Cabango, preventing Mark Fotheringham’s team from scoring a late winner.
Joel Piroe, who had 22 goals last season, tried to score his sixth goal of this one, but Nicholls deflected his long-range attempt wide. Harry Darling was able to escape from Huddersfield after the ensuing corner due to faulty marking, but the defender was unable to deflect his effort. Swansea, who were gaining self-assurance, came the closest to starting the scoring just before the half-hour mark. Joel Latibeaudiere’s looping header on a precise Matt Grimes delivery necessitated yet another outstanding stop from Nicholls.
Late in the game, Michael Obafemi came close to landing a sucker-punch strike, but the Terriers once again owed their outstanding goalie thanks. The Irish attacker managed to escape and unleash a vicious shot, which was deflected onto the crossbar by a thin touch from Nicholls. Then, with their first attempt on goal in stoppage time, Huddersfield came dangerously close to scoring an unexpected late winner. Steven Benda denied substitute Ward in a one-on-one situation after the Swans’ defence made a communication error. Then, Cabango stopped the forward on the redirected shot, keeping the score tied thanks to his valiant goal-line defence.
