Jay Fulton scored a late equalizer to help Swansea produce one of the close football scores of the weekend in the Championship. In his complete debut against his old team, Jamal Lowe gave Rangers the lead after 27 minutes. Swansea was unable to stop Tyler Roberts’ cross, and Lowe was left with the opportunity to score. With nine minutes left, though, the Welsh team scored with their first attempt on goal, scoring a well-executed goal. Ryan Manning, a former member of QPR, made a superb reverse ball to Luke Cundle, who instead of going for the goal himself set up Fulton for an easy finish. It was a devastating loss for Rangers, who have now won just one of their last 13 games, including seven losses.
After taking the lead, QPR continued to advance after the break and, in somewhat peculiar circumstances early in the second half, had an opportunity to double their advantage. Goalkeeper Steven Benda handled Harry Darling’s backpass under pressure from Ilias Chair, giving the home team a free kick at the edge of the six-yard box, but Chair’s shot was stopped. Additionally, Lowe came very close to adding a second goal after being assisted by Roberts. The forward’s volley hit the crossbar after rebounding off the ground.
Swansea, who are currently ranked 11th in the standings, had a tonne of possession, particularly in the second half, but they had trouble producing clear-cut chances. They were also dealt a blow shortly after the hour mark when Benda was forced to leave the game due to an injury and was replaced by Andy Fisher. Fisher had to make a save with his legs to stop Lowe after the visitors were caught in possession while attempting to play out from the back on numerous occasions. But the Swans’ perseverance paid off when they finally created an opening, which Fulton calmly seized.
