Dave Cormack, the chairman of Aberdeen, is hoping that discussions with the city’s civic leaders would result in the Dons moving into a new environmentally friendly stadium, which according to an economic impact analysis would boost the Granite City’s economy by $1 billion over the following 50 years. Even though he approved a new £50 million house in Kingsford, which is eight miles west of the town center, some years ago, Cormack says he is willing to wait ten years for a decision from the local government regarding fresh land.
In addition, the US-based software millionaire is prepared to keep supporting the team until the council makes a final choice over whether or not it wants them to be a part of a £150 million development of Aberdeen’s coastal region. Pittodrie Stadium, where they currently play, has seen better days over the previous 20 years, but the club has continued to invest money in it to maintain it at the necessary level, even as the Dons prepare to report losses of £4 million.
Dave Cormack is eager to investigate the concept of keeping the club in the town center, he said at the launch of the findings of an economic impact study they commissioned in partnership with Aberdeen City Council. In order to achieve Scotland’s goal of becoming Europe’s energy capital, Cormack is concerned that if a new stadium were to go through, decisions would not just be influenced by economic factors but also by the need to achieve greater energy efficiencies.
According to a study done by the Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce and MKA Economics, a new stadium at Aberdeen Beach is expected to bring in at least £1 billion and attract 38 million visitors over the course of the next 50 years. According to the projection, the stadium and community facilities would provide an additional £20 million to the local economy each year. They would also directly support 260 sustainable employment, paying £6 million in salaries annually and adding an additional £14.3 million in gross value to the economy.
