Rangers came from behind to produce one of the most comfortable football results of the weekend in the Scottish Premiership. When Connor Barron scored his first goal for the club to give Aberdeen a lead in the 21st minute, the visitors stunned the home team. Prior to the half, though, Rangers turned things around magnificently thanks to goals from Antonio Colak (27) and John Lundstram (45+3).
When James Tavernier headed in Borna Barisic’s cross in the 51st minute, Rangers increased their advantage. However, they were denied a fourth goal when the Rangers captain’s penalty kick bounced off the post after Jayden Richardson was found to have handled the ball in the penalty after a VAR review. The substitution of Alfredo Morelos, who had one goal disallowed, didn’t prove costly for Van Bronckhorst’s team as Rangers easily won, bringing them to within one point of league leaders Celtic, who play Livingston.
After his team fell four points short of Premiership leaders Celtic last weekend and received jeers at the conclusion of their 1-1 draw with Livingston, Van Bronckhorst faced more pressure going into the encounter. Napoli’s 3-0 victory on Wednesday night extended Rangers’ devastating Champions League run, but the Scottish team showed its domestic will and this time there were shouts at the final whistle. The Govan afternoon was extremely interesting. The third-placed visitors, who remained unaltered, applied pressure right away, but the Rangers played their way through purposefully. Attacker Fashion Sakala, who was back in the lineup alongside Colak, headed a Ryan Kent cross over the crossbar.
