Aberdeen chairman Dave Cormack revealed that the club is taking its time to find a replacement for Jim Goodwin. Cormack is looking for a new manager after Jim Goodwin was fired shortly after their 6-0 Scottish Premiership loss against Hibernian last month. Dwight Yorke, a former striker for Manchester United, and Chris Wilder, a former manager of Sheffield United, are two names who have been mentioned in connection with Pittodrie’s opening. According to Cormack, “there has been a considerable degree of interest as well as some baseless speculation.” Once he starts working for the Dons in the north-east, incoming chief executive Alan Burrows, who is leaving his position at managerless Motherwell, will be engaged in the club’s next hiring.
“The search for a new manager at Aberdeen FC is moving forward, and candidates are being evaluated in accordance with a precise set of standards and club culture,” Dave Cormack said about finding a replacement for Jim Goodwin. “We must take the required care to create a shortlist before beginning any meaningful discussions or interviews. The following measures will involve Alan Burrows, who takes over as CEO on February 27. It’s crucial that we be patient and take our time. The first team will continue to be led by Barry Robson in the interim, with Steve Agnew and Scott Anderson providing assistance. Their only attention is on getting ready for the game on Saturday.”
The Dons sit seventh in the Scottish Premiership, a point off the top six and three behind fourth-placed Livingston, as they pursue playing in Europe next season after defeating Motherwell 3-1 at Pittodrie to secure their first victory under Robson. Aberdeen could still place in the top four, according to Kris Boyd, despite the ongoing hunt for a new manager and a string of disappointing losses that saw the team fall from third to seventh since Christmas.
“For them, playing European football is feasible. Despite playing one more game than Livingston, they are only three points behind them,” he added. “This season, Aberdeen will likely focus on scoring many points at home, therefore if they can occasionally get points away from home, the difference won’t matter much. Their performance hasn’t been terrific, but things can change so quickly. Take a look at Hibs, where you could see the coaching staff was under pressure but things now seem completely different after two victories and a tie.”
