Tottenham is on the verge of making a late swoop for Villareal winger Arnaut Danjuma on loan until the end of the season. According to reports on Monday, Danjuma would join Everton on Tuesday without a manager. Frank Lampard was fired, but he was a vital player in the negotiations, thus it was still anticipated that the transfer would be completed. However, Tottenham has planned a physical for Tuesday evening and Arnaut Danjuma is en route to London to speak with Spurs. Despite receiving offers and interest from other teams that were more lucrative, the 25-year-old decided to sign with Everton. Although he was aware of the difficulty the team faced in the Premier League due to the unrest off the field, he still wanted to push himself and take chances.
The agreement with Everton was to be a straightforward loan through the end of the current campaign with no requirement or option to purchase. Danjuma attracted interest from Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest when Villarreal gave him permission to meet with clubs, which stoked more interest. Bamba Dieng of Marseille is a striker who was on the verge of joining Leeds United on Deadline Day in the summer but Nice came in with a bigger offer, and the deal fell through after the 22-year-old striker failed a physical. Everton is also interested in Dieng.
“This occurs just when Everton supporters feel they have endured enough pain. Danjuma had consented to join, the medical had been finished over the weekend, and he was anticipated at Finch Farm,” Vinny O’Connor said. “When it became clear that Frank Lampard would be fired, he asked the football team for some guarantees about the path they were taking. Everything appeared to be in place for Villarreal to announce a loan agreement today. Spurs have stepped in at the last minute and offered to take him on loan. Instead of having arrived at Finch Farm, he is traveling to Spurs to have talks.”
