Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola believes that they will need to be almost perfect if they want to catch Arsenal in the Premier League title race. Champions Prior to playing their game-in-hand against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Thursday night, City had an eight-point deficit to Arsenal at the top of the Premier League. In their most recent game, City had to settle for a point against struggling Everton, but Arsenal’s draw against Newcastle on Tuesday has given them an opportunity to close the gap. However, according to Guardiola, his team would need to fight hard to close the gap completely.
“I was quite happy with how they played against Newcastle again. They lost two points but didn’t lose the level of play they were doing,” Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola said. “From now until the end of the season, I’d say we have to play nearly flawlessly while hoping their performance slips a bit. The way we played in our most recent games, though, makes me feel good.”
“My goal as a manager is to constantly attempt to be better than the opposition. If you give up one shot and they score while we are unable to score, you must accept it and go on,” he added. “I want to see us continue to battle and not give up until we have no more chances or water left to fight for the Premier League. And if we are unsuccessful, we must be prepared to compete the following season. Teams are at their best during this time. The advantage that Arsenal and Manchester United currently enjoy is that, unlike Manchester City, neither team must win the Premier League in November with a 20-point margin.”
