Manchester United has a deal set in principle to sign Wout Weghorst from Burnley. Prior to finalizing any deal for the Dutchman to move to Old Trafford, United must first wait for Burnley and Besiktas to agree on the termination of the Dutchman’s loan agreement at Turkish club Besiktas. United is leaving all other options open in case the transfer does not go through since it is aware of the deal’s complexity because it necessitates the alignment of three teams. Ceyhun Kazanci, the sporting director at Besiktas, has already stated that any trade will only take place if the club is paid; otherwise, Weghorst will finish out his season-long loan.
“It is false to claim that our player’s contract contains an exit clause allowing him to accept a transfer offer from the Premier League in exchange for 2.5 million euros (£2.2 million) in compensation,” Besiktas said in a statement after Manchester United agreed on a deal in principle for Wout Weghorst. “The information that the player in question will be departing the team on Tuesday is wholly false. The Wout Weghorst initiative is only under the control of Besiktas.”
There is no doubt that United wants to acquire a No. 9, and Weghorst would provide them more than just his impressive club and international scoring record; he would also give them a physical presence. The 6-foot-6 Besiktas striker gave his team the 2-1 Super Lig victory over Kasimpasa on Saturday by scoring the decisive goal. In 18 games this season, he has scored nine goals. Weghorst appeared to give the team’s supporters a sorrowful farewell after scoring.
When seeking for a player with Weghorst’s skill set in the summer, United expressed interest in Sasa Kalajdzic and Benjamin Sesko. It is anticipated that United would focus on a loan agreement before revisiting the situation in the summer when more options will be available. For Weghorst to take the field in the Manchester derby on Saturday, United must register him by Friday at 12 p.m.
