Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne revealed that Jack Grealish receives more criticism because he’s English. When Man City paid Aston Villa £100 million for Grealish last summer, he became the most expensive signing in British history. However, the Englishman struggled in his first campaign with the champions. Grealish failed to have a big influence on Pep Guardiola’s team last season, scoring just three goals and dishing out three assists in 26 Premier League appearances.
Additionally, Grealish’s personal life has drawn a lot of attention since, despite not always being in the best of form on the field, the 27-year-old is frequently photographed having a good time. This rarely appears to endear him to the fans. However, Grealish opened the score after just 55 seconds in Man City’s 3-0 victory over Wolves at the weekend to get the season started to a good start. The former Villa player continued to terrify the Wolves’ defense before Nathan Collins’ high challenge resulted in the Irishman’s dismissal early in the game.
“Yes. Football is not the subject. The attention is heavier on them [English players] outside of football. Because they are English and people pay closer attention to what is going on, I can understand. I believe that foreign players, for example, are rarely examined when going out for the night,” Kevin De Bruyne said about Jack Grealish. “In contrast, I believe that whenever an English player leaves the team, it is reported in the media. I believe that this is also being considered by many. Nobody should care about what he does in his private life, but they do. Nowadays, everyone just discusses goals and assists, but football involves a lot more than that, and we frequently win games. Every week, we need to deliver and prevail in games. That is the distinction and the change he has had to make.”
