Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes £35m for World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister is a steal. One of the stars of Qatar 2022, Mac Allister, went to Anfield last week for what is believed to be an initial cost of roughly £35 million, while rumors indicate it might increase to £55 million. Prior to the World Cup, Liverpool selected the Argentina international as a top target, and the club values his flexibility.
“He is unquestionably a talented player, but we won’t know for sure until the season begins whether we made the right decision in signing him. He appears to be a tremendous player who can play any midfield position, which will benefit Liverpool,” Jamie Carragher said about Alexis Mac Allister. “Brighton are a fantastic team, however, I would say that many of their former players have failed to carry over their success to other teams. So, is that a result of them being a part of a unique system at Brighton? [Roberto] It will be intriguing to observe because De Zerbi has been outstanding this season. But even so, it’s a terrific acquisition—£35 million is a bargain for a World Cup champion with Premier League experience who is only 24 years old.”
Carragher anticipated a busy period for his old club throughout the remainder of the summer window, which just started last Wednesday as they sought to recover from the heartbreak of missing out on Champions League status. Khephren Thuram of Nice and Manu Kone of Borussia Monchengladbach are allegedly being considered by Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp wants to strengthen his team.
“They need at least another midfielder, and I believe Liverpool will eventually sign at least two more midfielders. They also need a defender, in my opinion,” he added. “It remains to be seen if that is a full back or a centre back. The question of whether Liverpool will stick with the system they used to end the season has generated a lot of discussions, and I find that to be extremely intriguing. However, I believe they will add another three players—a defender and two midfielders—to the lineup.”
