Manchester United target Frankie de Jong has finally broken his silence about his decision to stay at Barcelona. He was the heart of a transfer saga that went on the entire summer. Barcelona wanted to push him out because of their financial problems. Reports suggested that Manchester United had agreed on a £63.5m deal to sign the Dutchman but the move failed to materialize.
“I had already made up my mind to stay in May. So I maintained my composure. I feel at home in the club now. My teammates and I have never changed,” Manchester United target Frankie de Jong said. “I had already made up my mind to stay in May. So I maintained my composure. I feel at home in the club now. Regarding my teammates, nothing has ever changed.”
Meanwhile, former Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal revealed that he wanted to sign Sadio Mane when he was at the club. Mane took to life in the Premier League like a duck to water scoring 25 goals in his first two seasons. He helped Southampton reach sixth on the table their highest-ever finish.
“I genuinely wanted to get Sadio Mane because he is a good team player (at Manchester United). These are challenging opponents to play,” van Gaal said.
“I must admit that I came very, very close to joining Manchester United. The contract was already mine. I had everything arranged,” Sadio Mane said. “It was all set up, but I decided that I wanted to travel to Liverpool instead. I was persuaded to support Klopp’s initiative. I can still clearly recall the first time Klopp called me. I had the TV on. He said, “Sadio, listen, I want to convey to you what occurred at Dortmund,” and it was an action movie, which I adore.”
