Everton has sacked head coach Frank Lampard after a dismal run of form in the Premier League. After Lampard was fired, Everton owner Farhad Moshiri attended his first game since October 2021 as the Toffees fell to West Ham 2-0 at the London Stadium on Saturday, their third straight league defeat. The former Chelsea manager joined Everton in January 2022, and although helping the team avoid the relegation zone last season, he leaves Goodison Park with the division’s worst win percentage with 15 points from 20 games and three victories. The only team below Everton on goal differential is Southampton, who are currently in 19th place.
“All of Everton would like to thank Frank and his coaching staff for their assistance during this difficult year,” the club said in a statement after the sacking of Frank Lampard. “Throughout their tenure at the club, Frank and his team have demonstrated an exceptional level of passion and dedication, but due to recent results and the team’s standing in the league, it was necessary to make this tough choice. We wish Frank and everyone in his backroom staff well in the future of the sport. The club has begun the search for a new manager and will give information on the appointment as they become available.”
The club has also lost Chris Jones, Ashley Cole, Paul Clement, and Joe Edwards. While Alan Kelly will continue in his role as goalkeeping coach, Paul Tait, and Leighton Baines will participate in training until a new manager is chosen. One candidate the team is looking at is Bielsa, who has been unemployed since leaving Leeds in February of last year. Sean Dyche is one among the possibilities to lead Everton, who also really admire Thomas Frank of Brentford but are unclear if they can persuade him to join them. Following a 16-year absence from the Premier League and a ninth-place result in their inaugural campaign, Bielsa led Leeds back to the top flight in 2020.
