Everton is interested in signing Hakim Ziyech as a potential replacement for Anthony Gordon. While Chelsea is considering letting the Moroccan player go, the Toffees are willing to spend up to £25 million for him. The 29-year-old has been at Stamford Bridge since the summer of 2020 after moving there in a £33.3 million deal after coming from Ajax, but Everton has denied making an offer for him. However, Hakim Ziyech has struggled at Everton and has made just six starts for the team in all competitions this season despite making 15 appearances. In the meantime, Newcastle and Everton are still in negotiations about a move for Gordon.
The 21-year-old is not currently working out at Finch Farm with the Everton first team, and the Magpies are trying to find a replacement for Chris Wood, who last week joined Nottingham Forest. Newcastle sees Gordon as a player who can play a variety of roles throughout the front line, while not being a like-for-like replacement. Newcastle made an inquiry for Gordon in the summer but was turned down, although they still have an interest. It is believed that a price of about £40 million might persuade Everton to sell. Everton’s management predicament, in which Frank Lampard was fired on Monday and any incoming manager may wish to keep Gordon, who has 18 months left on his current contract at Goodison Park, complicates the move slightly.
