Former England defender Jamie Carragher has given his opinion on Europe’s two most promising strikers, stating that he would prefer to sign Erling Haaland over Kylian Mbappe.
Haaland of Borussia Dortmund and Mbappe of Paris Saint-Germain are the two hottest young assets in football right now, and both have been linked with moves away from their current clubs.
If Carragher were in charge of his former club, Liverpool, Haaland would be first through the gates – and he was influenced by the 20-year-taunting old’s of Sevilla goalkeeper Yassine Bounou in the Champions League last week.
‘I’ve watched the clips today and I’ve always gone with Mbappe before, but there’s something about Haaland,’ Carragher confessed to Sky Sports.
‘He seems to be nuts, but positively. You simply believe he is unconcerned about something. In the Champions League, you can see the goalkeeper cheering. I enjoyed it and would like Haaland.’
In just 48 appearances for Borussia Dortmund, the Norway youngster has 47 goals and 11 assists.
Mbappe, the World Cup winner, has 116 goals and 59 assists in 158 games for his country’s reigning champions.
Thierry Henry, a legend in France, said of the duo, “They want to kill, they want to be in the box, they’re looking at the defenders and thinking. You won’t be able to live with me.
‘I can see that when the midfielder doesn’t give him the ball, you give the midfielder or defender that look like, ‘Hey, are you going to hand the ball over to me? I’ve had plenty, and I’m ready to score right now. I want to be the person who leads the team to victory.’ ‘If I’m Man City, I’d take both because I’d like to believe they’d be able to handle it.’
Both players, Henry believes, will adapt to the demands of every style and possess some of the qualities for which he was known.
