France head coach Didier Deschamps believes that Kylian Mbappe left his mark on the final despite ending up on the losing side. Although Kylian Mbappe of France was certainly the standout player at the Lusail Stadium on Sunday night as his hat-trick pushed Argentina all the way, Messi will undoubtedly garner the majority of the attention. Mbappe scored the first hat-trick in a World Cup final since Geoff Hurst’s for England in 1966, spurring France to a comeback that forced penalties. Didier Deschamps, the head coach of France, believed that Mbappe’s contribution will be remembered despite Les Bleus failing to win a second straight World Cup victory.
“On this final, Kylian has really left his stamp,” Didier Deschamps said about Kylian Mbappe. “But regrettably, he didn’t leave it the way he had hoped, which is why, like the other players, he was really disappointed when the game was over.”
“We obviously lament the first half of the game, and as the game enters extra time, we realize that we had a chance to win it in the last seconds. Sadly, it was unsuccessful and penalties were imposed,” he added. “We simply weren’t as excellent as we could have been for a variety of reasons, and we faced a formidable opponent. We could have used a little more vigor. Some of our most important players lacked it. Nevertheless, we had a few young, less seasoned players who entered the game and brought some freshness and quality. They were able to pull us back into the game and maintain the dream. Unfortunately, we were unable to realize that dream in the end.”
