Bruno Fernandes believes that Erik ten Hag is bringing an elite mindset to the club like Guardiola and Klopp. Ten Hag replaced Ralf Rangnick as Man Utd’s manager over the summer when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was fired, but he had a difficult time getting things going as the Red Devils’ manager. Man Utd didn’t really do much throughout the early part of the summer transfer window before suddenly getting active.
On the field, it has been a similar story for Manchester United, who have dropped their first two Premier League games after falling to Brentford and Brighton & Hove Albion, respectively. Man United have won their next four Premier League games, including triumphs over Liverpool and Arsenal, though, following that loss.
Man United are now in fifth place in the Premier League, six points behind league-leading Arsenal, but they do have a game in hand. The start of the season is a good moment for teams to reflect on how they played, and Man Utd is finally looking like a club capable of contending. Ten Hag has done a particularly good job of developing a defensive connection between Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane. One of Man Utd’s six first-team acquisitions this summer, along with Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen, Casemiro, Antony, and Martin Dubravka—the last three arriving later—was Martinez.
“First off, he has a thought. He has a distinct style. You must abide by his instructions. On that, he is strict. It’s nice that, too. I believe we missed discipline in the past, and he has brought it. Everyone must agree on everything,” Bruno Fernandes said about Erik ten Hag. “Pep (Guardiola) and Jurgen Klopp have been doing that for years because they have consistency in the club, in the decisions they make regarding the transfer market, and in the manner, they assemble the team, which is crucial for them to be rewarded.”
