“I am very proud and grateful to have been a member of the FC Bayern family for the past nine years,” according to the club’s official website, the Spaniard midfielder said.
“I’d like to thank this fantastic club, particularly our fans, for making Munich my home! These nine years will never be forgotten by me. I felt the ‘Mia san mia’ and the unique essence of FC Bayern from the first day. I lived for this club, always gave my all for it, and am extremely proud of the many titles we won together. FC Bayern and its fans will always have a special place in my heart. Thank you very much, thank you very much, servus – I want to see you again!”
President’s Word
Bayern president Herbert Hainer has demanded that Martinez be inducted into the club’s hall of fame for his achievements at Allianz Arena, while still wishing him luck in the future.
“Javi Martinez is one of those people who demonstrates what FC Bayern stands for, “Hainer said.
“When top foreign stars associate with our club in the same way he does, amazing things will happen. Javi soon became one of us, and the amazing success we’ve had with him speaks for itself. Javi Martinez will still have a special role in this club’s history. We wish him the best of luck in the future. Javi gave our team great consistency in terms of play and has always been an outstanding personal fit,” Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said.
“I’d like to thank Javi for a fantastically fun and fruitful period. Javi, take care. You will always be a valued member of the FC Bayern family.”
Martinez joined Bayern Munich from Athletic Club in 2012 for a then-club-record fee of €40 million (£35m/$48m) and has since played in 266 games for the German champions across all competitions.
The World Cup winner has since netted 14 times. Including last-second goals in Bayern’s European Super Cup victories over Chelsea in 2013 and Sevilla in 2020.
Martinez has also helped the club win eight Bundesliga championships, two Champions League titles, and five DFB Pokals. Establishing himself as one of Europe’s top defensive midfielders in the process.
