Bayern Munich booked their place in the quarterfinals of the Champions League after a 3-0 aggregate win over PSG. Find the Player Ratings below.
Bayern Munich
Yann Sommer – 7 –After being caught on the ball, he put his team in serious jeopardy. Vitinha appeared to have scored, but De Ligt came flying in to make the save.
Alphonso Davies – 7.5 –He was his typical rogue self down Bayern’s left flank. The electrifying Canadian full-back, on the other hand, lacked a serious end product and was frequently tried alongside Hakimi on the same area of land.
Matthijs de Ligt – 8.5 –A more aggressive performance by the Dutchman, who appeared to be entrusted with keeping an eye on Messi, was essential in preventing the World Cup winner from putting the visitors ahead during a goalmouth scramble in the 25th minute.
Dayot Upamecano – 8 –Once Upamecano was given the difficult task of keeping comrade Mbappe at bay, fraternity was thrown out the window.
Josip Stanisic – 7.5 –Some may have expected Joo Cancelo to start, but it appears that Julian Nagelsmann does not trust the on-loan Manchester City defender. Having said that, Josip Stanisic performed admirably as Bayern’s right-sided centre defender.
Joshua Kimmich – 6 –Bayern’s midfield is tidy. Kimmich wasn’t at his most commanding, but he didn’t need to be.
Leon Goretzka – 7 – Playing between compatriots Kimmich and Müller, the “box-to-box” midfielder had a few chances to break the deadlock, but he did play a part in Bayern’s game-winning goal.
Jamal Musiala – 7.5 – Musiala was definitely Bayern’s most threatening player when he was on the field. He came into tonight’s game as the most prolific U21 player across Europe’s top five leagues.
Thomas Müller – 7 –The self-proclaimed raumdeuter played in a more open role behind Choupo-Moting, but his poor timing cost Bayern’s center-forward a goal because Müller was in an offside position.
Kingsley Coman – 5.5 –On Bayern’s right flank, I had a fascinating clash with Nuno Mendes.
Eric Choupo-Moting – 7.5 –The second half started like a house on fire. Due to Danilo’s pressure, I was unable to get a shot off.
Paris Saint-Germain
Gianluigi Donnarumma – 5.5 –Prior to tonight’s game, Paris Saint-Germain were the only team in the Champions League without a clean sheet this season; their much-maligned Italian goalkeeper was forced to make a significant stop from Musiala after the half-hour mark. Yet he was stranded in a no-land man’s and couldn’t stop Choupo-game-winning Moting’s goal or Gnabry’s late effort.
Marquinhos – 5 –His season was cut short due to a nagging injury. Marquinhos, who has been dealing with a rib problem, had been one of PSG’s more important players, covering a variety of various duties, most notably sliding into midfield.
Sergio Ramos – 5.5 –This evening, his many years of experience needed to be highlighted. Ramos, a prolific goal-scoring defender, brought the sides equal, but Sommer expertly saved his effort.
Danilo Pereira – 6 –“Unfortunately, Bayern was too powerful,” he said after the game on Canal+. Danilo, who had five completed tackles and two successful interceptions, may at least be proud of himself.
Nuno Mendes – 5 –Since moving to Paris last summer, the 20-year-old Portuguese international has evolved into a valuable asset for PSG at both ends of the field, as evidenced by his performance in Munich this evening.
Fabián Ruiz – 5 –Produced some promising offensive surges in the first half, but his effect faded after Bayern took control.
Marco Verratti – 4 –It was his costly miscalculation that set Bayern on their way.
Vitinha – 5.5 –After Sommer’s moment of craziness, he thought he placed the Parisians in front. De Ligt’s off-the-line clearing preserved the score tied at halftime.
Achraf Hakimi – 6 – While Munich was occupying Mbappé, Hakimi often found himself open in space, but he couldn’t find that magical moment of brilliance to break down Bayern’s tenacious defense.
Kylian Mbappé – 6 –He was the one Bayern was most concerned about, and Nagelsmann’s defensive strategy reflected this brilliantly. Mbappe would have three shots on goal, but none would challenge Sommer in the Bavarian net.
Lionel Messi – 6.5 – This was Messi’s 150th Champions League start, following Cristiano Ronaldo (178) and Iker Casillas (176). PSG’s ‘number 30’ was busy this evening, but he couldn’t dip into his bag of magic tricks and send PSG through to the next round.
