After spending the majority of the season out of the spotlight, Bayern Munich goalkeeper Alexander Nübel has recently found himself in the spotlight.
Nübel has made headlines this season due to reports that he is dissatisfied with the amount of playing time he has earned behind starter Manuel Neuer. Internally, Nübel’s complaints were not well received, especially by Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick.
“These are issues that we address between ourselves. They don’t belong here,” Flick told Bild. “We’re going to talk. Alex has every right to his opinion. When he came to Bayern Munich, he knew just what he was getting himself into.”
Following weeks of speculation linking Nübel to AS Monaco, Werder Bremen, and Hertha Berlin, it appears that the 24-year-old will get another chance in the Champions League against Lazio:
Flick will hold a press conference soon, and this article will certainly be a hot topic among the journalists in attendance.
Oliver Kahn, the new CEO of Bayern Munich, has denied suggestions that the club will loan out the former Schalke 04 player. Nübel’s contract could be voided if he does not make 10 appearances this season, according to sources. It remains to be seen how serious Nübel is in doing so.
In any case, Neuer could use a break in what should be a meaningless fight. With Neuer still performing at a world-class stage, Nübel’s chances could be few and far between for a long time.
