Gary Neville believes that Gianni Infantino is the worst face for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Former England defender Neville, a pundit for Sky Sports, harshly blasted Infantino ahead of Sunday’s opening match of the 2022 finals between the host nation and Ecuador, calling him a “bad face for football.”
“I’ve traveled extensively with Manchester United, including to the Middle East, the Far East, Asia, Africa, and Australasia. There’s no question that we should spread the football around the globe,” Gary Neville said about Gianni Infantino. “But that guy’s got a lousy face for football (Infantino). He shouldn’t have spoken some of the things he stated yesterday because they were inappropriate. He is the worldwide representative of football, not deferring to one or two countries as he appeared to be doing yesterday. He should be acting like a statesman and bringing people together. He needs to overcome it.”
“He shouldn’t be using the language of that kind, but some of what he said yesterday about “I’m a migrant worker, I’m crippled” is really scandalous. I think he shouldn’t be using those words,” he added. “FIFA, in my opinion, does a bad job of capturing the beauty of football, which is played in communities from Brazil to Bury, Bolivia to Peru, and everywhere else. FIFA needs to improve, I feel compelled to remark. Democracy and independence are essential. I believe he is the worst person to represent the Middle East, Arabs, Muslims, and the World Cup in Qatar. He elects himself back into place.”
