Milan technically will play host to neighbors Inter in the first leg of the semi-final of the Champions League. For the first time since winning the competition in 2007, when Milan won its seventh European Cup thanks to a match-winning brace from Pippo Inzaghi, the Rossoneri are aiming to go to the final. Simone, the brother of the former striker, will be in charge of blocking Milan’s ascent to the biggest stage from the opposing dugout. This is how Stefano Pioli would advertise.
GK: Mike Maignan – He entered the discussion for the greatest goalie in the world after his quarterfinal matchup against Napoli. His cause would be further strengthened by a few more outstanding performances versus Inter.
RB: Davide Calabria – Kept Khvicha Kvaratskhelia calm over those two legs by playing nonstop. Inter doesn’t nearly have a winger of the same calibre to cause such issues.
CB: Fikayo Tomori – Only 166 players have ever made 100 games for Milan, and the England international was recognized for this accomplishment by Paolo Maldini, a club icon and Milan’s sports director.
CB: Simon Kjaer – Brings much-needed experience and consistency to the defense, although he scored an own goal in his most recent European semi-final, a defeat to England in the Euro 2020 tournament while playing for Denmark.
LB: Theo Hernandez – Will have his hands full in battles against the feisty and vivacious Denzel Dumfries.
CM: Sandro Tonali – Formerly a Football Manager wonder kid compared to Gennaro Gattuso and Andrea Pirlo, Tonali has made a name for himself as one of the best midfielders in Europe.
CM: Rade Krunic – The hidden hero of Milan’s midfield, who puts in the grueling hours and does the grunt labor.
RM: Alexis Saelemaekers – A perplexing winger who is inconsistent in his play but occasionally contributes, most notably by scoring the most recent equalizer in Milan’s recent draw against Roma.
AM: Ismael Bennacer – This season, the Algerian has excelled in a variety of roles, most recently as a number 10.
LM: Brahim Diaz – The Real Madrid loanee will go to the left wing while Rafael Leao is out with a groin injury.
CF: Olivier Giroud – One of just two players on the current Milan side (the other being Divock Origi) who has won the Champions League previously, he is frequently the guy for the biggest of situations.
