West Brom head coach Carlos Corberan has been handed a new contract until 2027 amid links to Leeds. Since signing a two-and-a-half-year contract with the team in October 2022, the 39-year-old has led the Baggies to 10 victories in his 13 league matches. He was one of the contenders for Leeds after Jesse Marsch was fired on Tuesday, but his new contract keeps him at the Hawthorns for two years. According to the club website, chief executive Ron Gourlay originally met with Corberan to discuss his future at the club three weeks ago, when Marsch was still employed at Elland Road. Prior to leaving to join Huddersfield, Corberan worked at Leeds for three years, first as the U23 manager and then as the first team coach under Marcelo Bielsa.
“Carlos’ enthusiasm for the game we all love has spread to everyone associated with the organization, not least of all our players, who have undoubtedly benefited from his first-rate coaching, tactical acumen, and attention to detail,” Gourlay said after Carlos Corberan was handed a new West Brom contract until 2027. “When we sat down three weeks ago to talk about the club’s future, Carlos’ vision for Albion was completely in line with mine. We are committed to moving the club forward as a team.”
“I firmly think that success can only be attained when everyone pulls together, and the way this wonderful club has made me feel at home has given me confidence that this is the place for me,” he added. “I believe it is crucial that we not let this situation divert us from our goal, which is to continuously improve and raise the level of competition within the team in preparation for the difficulties that lie ahead. My main goal is to get a win in the next game, and we are working very hard to do that on Friday night at Birmingham City.”
