Real Madrid is one of the teams that comes to mind when discussing successful football clubs. One of the most prosperous clubs in the world and the club with the most fans is Los Blancos. Some of the top football players, some of whom went on to become well-known figures while sporting the renowned white shirt of the club, have contributed to their success. But only a select number of those top sportsmen may take pride in being listed among Real Madrid’s top goal-scorers. Find the list of the Top 10 Real Madrid goalscorers of All time below.
10. Emilio Butragueno – 171 goals
Butragueo, a Real Madrid icon and football genius, elevated the game to an art form. His goals were the stuff of legends, and his dribbling was just out of this world. He made the game into something magnificent by using his wits to outwit the defenders’ physical might. His moniker, “the Vulture,” came to stand for one of the greatest player generations in Real Madrid and Spanish football history. In 463 games for the Whites, he scored 171 goals, helping the team win five straight league championships in the late 1980s. In 1990–1991 he also took home the Pichichi Trophy once, helping us start our list of the Top 10 Real Madrid Goalscorers Of All Time.
9. Pirri – 172 goals
He was an adaptable athlete. He was a defender, a makeshift striker, and a midfielder. He was a terrific goal scorer as well. Over the course of his 16 seasons at Real Madrid, he scored more than 172 goals. He stood for the courage and honour of Madrid. He competed in the Copa del Rey final in 1975 while suffering from fever and a fractured jaw, as well as the European Cup Winner’s Cup final in 1971 while wearing a sling on one of his arms. He was awarded the club’s highest honour, the Laureate. At the time, Pirri finished second to Santillana, who was also a very productive striker and Real Madrid’s fourth-highest goalscorer, with 172 goals in 461 appearances. In total, he won 16 trophies over the course of 16 seasons, including 10 league championships and five Copas.
8. Francisco Gento – 182 goals
With 182 goals in 601 games, Francisco “Paco” Gento ranks ninth among Real Madrid’s all-time leading scorer. On a collective level, he also has a lot of records with Madrid. Gento and Madrid, who together with other great Alfredo Di Stefano and Ferenc Puskas formed a formidable triumvirate that dominated European football by winning the first five European Cups, are the only individuals in European history to win six continental championships. With 23 championships, including 12 league crowns (a record) and two Copa del Reys, he is also Real Madrid’s most successful player ever.
7. Hugo Sanchez – 208 goals
Hugo Sanchez was a member of Emilio Butragueno’s renowned Quinta del Buitre (The Vulture Squadron), which won five straight league championships in the late 1980s. Sanchez won four consecutive Pichichi Trophies from 1984 to 1988 as well as the European Golden Shoe in 1990. He is sixth among Real Madrid’s all-time leading scorers with 208 goals in 282 appearances.
6. Ferenc Puskas – 242 goals
The first renowned duo for Madrid was Ferenc Puskas and Di Stefano. Puskas was a prolific goal-scorer for Madrid. His 0.92 goals per game average for Los Blancos is really only surpassed by Cristiano Ronaldo. For the all-powerful Real Madrid team of the 1950s and 1960s, Puskas scored 242 goals in 262 games, winning three European Cups and five league championships. He won the Pichichi on four occasions thanks to his prodigious goal-scoring ability. In his honour, the Puskas trophy, which is given for the best goal scored in a calendar year, was created.
5. Santillana – 290 goals
In 645 games, Carlos Alonso Gonzalez (or) Santillana has 290 goals. Santillana spent 16 years playing for Real Madrid, winning four Copa del Reys, nine league championships, and two double-winning campaigns (1974–75 and 1975–80). Along with the illustrious Ferenc Puskas, he holds the record for Real Madrid’s joint-most Copa del Rey goals.
4. Alfredo Di Stefano – 308 goals
If anybody was responsible for starting the accounts of Real Madrid’s illustrious past, it was Di Stefano. Di Stefano scored 308 goals in 396 appearances for Madrid, leading Real Madrid to eight league wins and five consecutive Champions League (then European Cup) championships. Before Raul eclipsed him in 2009, he held the record for Real Madrid’s most goals scored.
3. Raul – 323 goals
A symbol of Real Madrid. The enduring captain who embodied Madrid’s principles on the pitch. Raul was an offensive forward with a seemingly endless instinct. He set an excellent example for everyone by giving every game his all, regardless of the opposition. With each motion, it was clear that he would give it his all and had an insatiable desire. He was always looking for rebounds. a great example for everybody who has ever wanted to play football.
With 323 goals in 741 appearances, Raul is a copyright Real Madrid star who rose through the junior levels. He has played the most times for Real Madrid and, until Cristiano Ronaldo overtook him in 2009, held the record for most goals scored by a Real Madrid player. Raul earned three Champions League medals, six La Liga championships, the Pichichi Trophy in 1998–1999 and 2000–2001.
2. Karim Benzema – 354 goals
Since relocating from Lyon in 2009, Karim Benzema has been a valuable asset to the Spanish giants and an indispensable component of the frontline for more than a decade. He currently holds the fifth-highest goal-scoring position for Real Madrid with pride. Benzema has 354 goals in 648 appearances and has enjoyed remarkable success, taking home three league championships, four Champions League crowns, and four Club World Cups, among many other honours. He has been the offensive hub for Madrid and, at times, has carried that onslaught alone in all competitions. He is still going strong.
1. Cristiano Ronaldo – 450 goals
Cristiano Ronaldo had to be at the top of the list of the Top 10 Real Madrid Goalscorers Of All Time. While playing for the Spanish capital, the illustrious footballer cemented his place in the football pantheon of all-time greats. It should come as no surprise that he is Real Madrid’s all-time leading scorer given his egregiously absurd consistency. Ronaldo scored 450 goals in 438 games, or 1.02 goals per game, and won four Champions League crowns in addition to two league championships and a plethora of other individual and team accolades. In contrast to Ronaldo, who smashed Raul’s record within only eight years of joining Real Madrid, his tally of 450 goals will need superhuman levels of consistency and may take years to surpass.
