Rangers have completed the signing of Nicolas Raskin from Standard Liege on Deadline Day. During the current transfer window, the 21-year-old was one of manager Michael Beale’s main priorities, and it is believed that Rangers defeated competition for the player from numerous clubs in Europe. After Todd Cantwell, Raskin has signed a long-term contract and joins the Ibrox club as its second January addition. Despite missing out on Morgan Whittaker when Swansea elected to keep the attacker, Beale is happy with the club’s business this month and Rangers are now looking to recruit more players in the summer.
“I’m very happy to be here and I’m also quite pleased to be a part of such a big club. I am excited to compete at Ibrox. Rangers is a big club, so when I learned of their interest, it was really thrilling,” Nicolas Raskin said. “I’m eager to make my debut, and I hope it can happen as quickly as feasible.”
“We are delighted to welcome Nicolas and his family to Rangers as a player who we have followed for a very long time as a football club,” head coach Michael Beale said. “He is a young athlete who has already gained valuable experience playing both domestically and in Europe. I’m excited to collaborate with him closely and include him in our team.”
“With Nico’s arrival today, our team has been strengthened even further, which makes us happy. He’s a young athlete with talent, and I have no doubt that he’ll appreciate working with Michael and our staff to hone that talent,” sporting director Ross Wilson said.
Raskin, who went through Standard Liege’s academy before spending time playing at the youth level with Anderlecht, made his senior debut in February 2018 and later appeared in 96 matches across all competitions for his hometown team. Raskin will start practicing with the Rangers soon, pending the approval of his work permit.
“He plays the game quite well. He is a player who can link up the midfield and the attackers, he has excellent technical ability, and he can play as a six or an eight,” Beale added.
