Man Utd Women head coach Marc Skinner has opened up on the growth of the team this season along with the clear plan they have followed. Skinner definitely keeps his promises. Man United, which is currently ranked second in the rankings and competing against the two top women’s teams in the nation (Arsenal and Chelsea), is in the running for the WSL championship this time around. The key for Man Utd was finishing off games and finding a way to win three points in games they dominated. Skinner is happy to have discovered such solutions after having the most different scorers in the WSL this season (14).
“The strategies we have developed to win games have really amazed me. We may score goals in a variety of methods, making it challenging to defend against those goals. If you want to defend against us, you must be at your best,” Man Utd Women head coach Marc Skinner said. “We can cross early, late, or cut back while going one against one in wide channels. We can score from set pieces and one-on-one drives in the box. We have players who can individually score from the edge of the box, within the box, with headers, volleys, and in a wide range of other methods. That’s what we tried to attract, so I’ve been incredibly impressed and believe we’re in there. We haven’t been as fluid the last two games as we would want, but the last three games have seen us generate 70 or so opportunities. As the data accumulates, it will put us in a strong position to continue winning games.”
A 3-2 victory over Arsenal in November at the Emirates may have been one of Man Utd’s most significant moments of the season thus far. Following a brutal 3-1 loss to Chelsea in their previous WSL match, Skinner’s team displayed grit to come back and win. He calls it a “huge growth moment” and cites victories over Reading and Sunderland as evidence of how United is resolving issues that arise during games.
