West Brom won their fifth game in a row as they produced one of the most comprehensive football results of the weekend in the Championship. At The Hawthorns, the brilliant Jed Wallace scored the game’s first goal within 20 minutes against Miller’s team that provided pitifully little resistance. Grady Diangana’s goal for Albion in the 58th minute increased the margin, and Brandon Thomas-conversion Asante’s on the rebound from a penalty he had won in the 70th minute sealed the victory. On Monday night, West Brom defeated Sunderland, and goal scorers Tom Rogic and Daryl Dike were honored with starting against a team that had lost at home to Bristol City when it had last played.
Albion made a solid start. Wallace inserted Dike and drew the ball back while keeping the angle narrow. The pass was meant for Rogic, but it missed its mark, and the visitors got away. Viktor Johansson, the goalie for the Millers, had a busy first half that eventually turned into one-way traffic. He deflected a shot from Matt Phillips around the post, but he was powerless to stop Wallace from rightfully breaking the tie by sprinting onto Rogic’s superbly weighted through ball and slipping the ball in.
As he did at Sunderland, Corberan turned to his bench, and the adjustments had the desired result right away. Following the switch, Wallace sent a low cross into the penalty box, where Diangana turned the ball past Johansson to provide the hosts with much-needed breathing room. With their fresh legs in the final third, West Brom’s thirst for more goals was clear. Palmer, the goalie, launched a long kick forward in the 70th minute, which sent Thomas-Asante zooming off. Before being pushed over, the attacker outmuscled Cameron Humphreys, and referee John Busby pointed to the spot right away.
