Ismaila Sarr scored from the penalty spot to help Watford produce one of the most comfortable football results of the weekend in the Championship. The 17-year-old striker scored in the 72nd minute, only four minutes after coming on to replace Vakoun Bayo for his first taste of league play. He appeared equally as shocked and delighted to have scored. The young player entered the first team last week during a 2-0 FA Cup loss at Reading. Ismaila Sarr secured the victory with a late penalty that was awarded after Seasiders goalkeeper Chris Maxwell recklessly tackled Matheus Martins, a new Hornets substitute. The victory moved Slaven Bilic’s injured team up to third, reducing Blackpool, who hadn’t won a league game since October, to second from the bottom.
In the fourth minute, Sarr nearly put the Hornets ahead after Maxwell was forced to palm the ball out of his six-yard box while under pressure at his back post from an inswinging corner. The moment Sarr saw it, he pounced, but his rising drive smacked back off the bar. Josh Bowler made his second Seasiders debut by responding to a free kick that the home team’s goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann was able to save while on loan from Nottingham Forest. Both defender William Troost-Ekong and then Sarr went down hurt but were able to continue, which worried the home team.
Another double substitution by Bilic this time proved crucial as Yaser Asprilla, who had replaced Hamza Choudhury, made a superb ball to set up Ferreira’s goal. Adeyamo was there to dispatch the rebound for an opening goal in the 72nd minute after Maxwell was able to parry the subsequent shot. In the 87th minute, Sarr sealed the win from the penalty spot after Maxwell had rashly charged Martins. The Senegal star’s composed shot fooled the goalkeeper.
