West Ham are still keen on signing Jesse Lingard on a permanent basis. The club are waiting on whether he has a future at Manchester United. The midfielder will return to pre-season amid talks with Ole Gunnar Solksjaer. Lingard has one year left on his Manchester United contract. Lingard joined West Ham on loan during the second half of the season where he scored nine goals for the London club. He narrowly missed out on the Euro 2020 England squad. Lingard was included in the 33-man squad but failed to make the final cut.
“Regular football is the most important thing for me,” Jesse Lingard said after his loan spell at West Ham. “After going on loan and getting a good run in the team, you started to see the real me, with the goals and the assists.”
“I couldn’t say any more than I’m hopeful Jesse might want to come here, that’s up to Manchester United, but he’s been a positive signing,” Moyes said when asked about the potential of Lingard joining next season.
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer now has a decision on his hands. He was delighted with Lingard’s performances at west ham where he collected the Premier League Player of the Month as well as the Goal of the Month in April.
“Jesse has been brilliant since he left,” Solskjaer said in April. “Selfishly, we could have kept him because he’s always got a part to play, he’s a fantastic lad around the place, Man United through and through, never once did he moan or cause me a problem, he just worked really hard. He deserved a chance to play for more football – that’s why we let him go to West Ham because he deserves a chance for what he’s done throughout his life for Man United. Of course, we [will] welcome him back.”
