Tottenham is looking to sign Roma forward Nicolo Zaniolo on loan until the end of the season. There hasn’t been a bid to buy, so there are now few chances that the deal will go through. Spurs are exploring at alternative attacking possibilities after first showing interest in Brighton forward Leandro Trossard, and the team has renewed its interest in Zaniolo. The Jose Mourinho team is eager to sell Nicolo Zaniolo to Tottenham during this transfer window and is also willing to work out a loan deal with a buy-back clause. Only two goals have been scored by Zaniolo this season in 19 games across all competitions. Following news that rival north London club Arsenal is in advanced negotiations to buy Trossard, Tottenham has shown interest in the Italy international.
Everton, however, is hindered during the January transfer window by problems both on and off the field. The Toffees are 19th in the Premier League with only one victory in their previous 13 games across all competitions, and there have been fan protests against the board. Following the 2-1 loss to bottom-place Southampton last weekend, hundreds of home supporters stayed in Goodison Park for a planned sit-in during which they yelled ‘sack the board.’
Security advisers advised Everton’s directors not to go to the game against Southampton because there was a “serious and credible threat to their safety and security,” according to the consultants. The chief executive, Denise Barrett-Baxendale, was recently put in a headlock by a fan at a home game, raising concerns for board members. No harm came to Barrett-Baxendale. Everton hasn’t added any new players this month, whereas others nearby at the bottom of the Premier League, including Wolves, Nottingham Forest, and Southampton, have done so. Everton’s relegation opponents’ efforts have been noted by Lampard, who claims that he and the team are still working to sign aggressive players.
