Pep Guardiola father has admitted that he does not want his son to contemplate taking over as manager of Manchester City. Valenti, on the other hand, would be delighted if his son returned to Barcelona as a coach or counselor.
While Pep Guardiola would certainly love to see Lionel Messi back at Manchester City, the coach’s father claims that a move for the Argentine would be detrimental to Barcelona.
Messi’s contract at Barcelona expires this summer. And his future is uncertain, with Guardiola’s City being mentioned as a possible destination.
Valenti Guardiola told journalist Emiliano Nunia, “There is no club in the world that does not like to have Messi. I was blown away when I watched him play when he was 12 or 13 years old. At that rank, he was exceptional. Messi is one of the best players in the world. And I’m sure Pep will welcome him to City. Pep has always regarded Messi as the greatest player in the world, but he now plays for Barcelona. Josep has never tried to take a player that will be detrimental to the club.”
Pep Guardiola Father Support For His Sons Future
Despite being a lifetime Barcelona fan, Pep Guardiola acknowledges that his support for his son’s future takes precedence over his passion for the Catalans.
“I’ve always been a Barcelona fan, and I’ve always wanted them to win,” Valenti said.
“However, I want Josep to come out on top. My son comes first, but I love it when Barcelona wins. I’m very pleased with his decision-making abilities. He has the choice of coaching Barcelona, retiring, or doing whatever he wants. I don’t have to tell him anything at his age. I’ll be satisfied no matter what he does.”
Valenti Guardiola has mentioned that if the chance arose, Pep would not take control of the Spanish national team.
Guardiola extended his contract with City until 2023 earlier this season.
