Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta revealed that left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko is not yet ruled out for the season. According to a report from The Athletic, Arsenal’s defense pairing won’t play again for the rest of the season as the Gunners compete with Man City for the championship, who lead by one point with a game remaining. However, Arteta has stated that there is no confirmation on the length of either player’s absence from the pitch.
“William is definitely not going to be fit for this game, and we have our doubts about him for the following one,” Mikel Arteta said about Oleksandr Zinchenko. “There is nothing to announce at this time. As always, the club will carry out such action. The time to discuss it is not now. We are really pleased with him because of the way he has grown and performed, and because of his incredible trajectory over the past few seasons. He is really essential to us and we are quite thrilled with him.”
Declan Rice has been one of the most often touted names in relation to the Gunners as the transfer window draws near and there are rumors circulating regarding Arsenal’s targets for the summer. West Ham boss David Moyes said on Friday that the Hammers are prepared for life without their captain and that the club is reportedly willing to split ways with Rice for £120 million to a Champions League team. When asked if Arsenal would be prepared to smash their transfer record, the £72 million it took to acquire Nicolas Pepe from Lille in 2019 and spend more than £100 million on a single player this summer, Arteta kept his cards close to his breast.
With three games remaining, Arsenal is still behind City in the race for the championship after an amazing 2-0 victory against Newcastle last Sunday, which many had predicted would be too much of a challenge for Arteta’s team. On Sunday, the Gunners will face another challenging match as seventh-placed Brighton travels to the Emirates in an effort to avenge their shocking 5-1 thumping at the hands of Everton.
