Mateo Kovacic has completed his £30m move to Manchester City from Chelsea. It is believed that the price will be worth an initial £25 million guarantee plus an additional £5 million based on performance. Ilkay Gundogan, who just joined Barcelona, will no longer wear the No. 8 jersey, which will be worn by him. In the summer of 2018, Kovacic arrived at Stamford Bridge from Real Madrid, originally on a loan. The 29-year-old Croatian international won 221 games for Chelsea and four major championships during his tenure there, including his fourth Champions League at Pep Guardiola’s team’s expense in 2021.
“I think that this is a wonderful decision on my part, and I am eager to begin working with City. Anyone who has followed this squad under Pep knows how talented they are; in my opinion, they are the finest in the entire globe. The awards they’ve received are obvious, but they’re also the best football team around,” Mateo Kovacic said after completing his move to Manchester City. “Any football player would consider it a dream to be a part of this team. I still have a lot of growing and learning to do, but I’m confident that, under Pep’s guidance, I can improve as a player, which excites me. My current intention is to take a few weeks off to relax before returning to Manchester to get ready for the upcoming season. I wish to support this team’s continued dominance and trophy success.”
“Mateo plays football quite well. He has extensive experience with elite teams, can play as a six or an eight, and is familiar with the Premier League. He possesses the tactical and technical skills we are seeking for in a midfielder, so it was an easy decision to bring him to City,” Manchester City director of football Txiki Begiristain said. “He is someone we had closely observed for a very long time, and each time we did, we were always impressed. His being here makes me happy. our is a fantastic acquisition for our squad, and I can’t wait to see what he can achieve in conjunction with Pep and the rest of our backroom staff.”
