Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has signed a four-and-half-year contract at Goodison Park. The 28-year-old, who was about to enter the final year of his current contract this summer, had been linked with a move to Tottenham, but has agreed to stay at Goodison Park despite the Toffees currently sitting 16th in the Premier League, one point above the relegation zone. Pickford, a £30 million acquisition from Sunderland in 2017, has made 222 appearances for Everton and has established himself as England’s first-choice goalkeeper with 50 caps.
“It’s huge for me to sign this new contract at such a fantastic club. The encouragement I’ve received from everyone at the club since I joined as a 22-year-old has been invaluable to my family and me. My family and I are both contents here. Everton is a huge club. The last few seasons have not gone as planned, but we now have a manager who I hope will steer us in the correct path and propel us to the top of the table,” Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford said. “It is unquestionably my goal to be successful at this club. The fans, staff, and teammates have been wonderful to me since the day I joined, and I want to do the same for them. I simply want to continue working hard and playing for Everton. We are aware that we are in a difficult position in the league at the moment, but I am keen to assist the club in improving this season and then aiming for success in the future, which will involve playing in our new stadium.”
“Jordan is one of the top goalkeepers in the world, so having a player of his caliber and talent commit to the club for the long term is a huge boost for us. Throughout many years, he has proven to be a first-rate player for Everton and England, and his attitude, attention, and leadership continue to be excellent,” Everton director of football Kevin Thelwell said. “Since signing him in 2017, our chairman has developed a great relationship with Jordan and his representatives, which has played a significant role in us reaching an agreement on this new contract. I’m sure every Evertonian will be happy to hear this news, and I’m confident that Jordan will continue to play an important role in our plans to drive Everton forward.”
