Dele Alli, an Everton midfielder, is set to return to the Premier League after suffering an injury while playing for Besiktas. Alli will be assessed by the club’s medical team, but he will be unable to play for the Toffees this season. Alli joined Besiktas on loan from Everton at the end of August and has only played two games for the club, scoring twice and assisting once. In January, Besiktas attempted to cancel Alli’s loan, but the lack of a break provision made it difficult.
Dele Alli, who turns 27 on April 11, joined Everton from Tottenham in February 2022 for a cost of up to £40 million, but failed to impress and was transferred to Besiktas six months later. He has struggled to replicate the form that earned him 37 England caps, the last of which came in 2017, and he is unpopular at Besiktas. Senol Gunes, the Turkish club’s manager, questioned Alli’s devotion last month after he missed training, claiming the midfielder was unavailable.
Allegations that Alli had gone AWOL were said to have perplexed him. On Wednesday, Gunes stated that they “could not reach him” and “were trying to hear from him,” adding that he hoped the athlete had not been in an accident. Alli returned to London from Turkey this week for a club-approved doctor’s appointment. Despite being told that he is not in Gunes’ plans for the rest of the season, Alli returned to the Besiktas squad.
Meanwhile, Liverpool is said to have dropped their interest in Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham. There has been no official remark, but it is thought that Liverpool believes spending more than £100 million on a single player is not the best way to improve their form this season. Liverpool will be active in the summer transfer window as they try to rebuild their team, with at least two new midfielders on their want list. Jurgen Klopp stated last week that the club’s on-field possibilities will be improved through wise additions, but that now is not the time to focus on title ambitions.
“Whatever we accomplish next year will never be enough in the eyes of the public or you [the media],” Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said. “But, with clever recruitment, we will undoubtedly improve. That is the strategy.”
