Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag revealed that Marcus Rashford is more than doubtful to face Wolves. Back-to-back Fourth-placed United’s opening to fifth-placed rivals Liverpool in the fight for a top-four finish was the result of losses in the Premier League for the first time since August. Ten Hag stated during his news conference on Friday that the return of center-back Raphael Varane, who has missed the past seven games, will help United, but he also gave a troubling prognosis for Rashford, the team’s leading scorer this season with 29 goals.
“Marcus Rashford is uncertain, and Raphael Varane has returned. He has an issue with his leg and an injury, making [Saturday] a significant question mark for him,” Erik ten Hag said about Marcus Rashford. “More than just skeptical. a large question mark. Varane’s return makes us delighted. He will lead us and has the knowledge and expertise to succeed.”
To hold Liverpool at bay as Jurgen Klopp’s team makes a late push to try to move into the top four, United must win on Saturday. Nevertheless, despite a string of losses, Ten Hag said his team remained unfazed. They had a whole week to prepare for this game despite a busy schedule.
“We have a lot of success, we’ve won a lot of games, and we are confident in what we’re doing,” he added. “The frameworks for how we play and work are quite obvious, but we must follow them exactly and adhere strictly to all of the rules and guidelines. We are successful when we carry out that. We are aware of this, but it is unimportant because we already possess all the necessary tools. We are independent of them as long as we have everything in our hands.”
In a season that has already seen them play 57 games, United has had a rare full week of preparation for this encounter. Ten Hag said that after giving his team a break, he could notice a difference this week. Ten Hag emphasised that the positive vibes extended to custodian David De Gea, whose contract expires this summer and whose status has come under scrutiny after his error proved crucial in the defeat against West Ham. De Gea’s position has been questioned as a result.
