Chelsea has completed the signing of Mykhailo Mudryk from Shakthar Donetsk for £88.5m. Mudryk had previously stated on social media that he preferred to play for Premier League leaders Arsenal. Even as recently as Friday, Arsenal was still in negotiations but was ready to back out of the deal if it didn’t seem right. However, Chelsea and Shakhtar reached an agreement on a deal on Saturday evening, and the 22-year-old drove to west London to have a physical before agreeing to an eight-and-a-half-year contract.
“I’m overjoyed to have joined Chelsea. At this point in my career, this is a really alluring challenge for me because it is a huge club in an amazing league. I’m looking forward to working with and learning from Graham Potter and his staff, and I can’t wait to meet my new team members,” Chelsea new signing Mykhailo Mudryk said.
“It gives us great pleasure to welcome Mykhailo to Chelsea. He is a really exciting talent, and we think he will make a great addition to our team both now and in the future. He will give our attack more depth, and we know that London will embrace him with open arms,” Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly said.
“In my opinion, nothing that happens during the transfer window should ever come as a surprise to you,” Chelsea head coach Graham Potter said. “He is a young player with a bright future in terms of what he brings to the table. He attacks the backline in exciting one-on-one situations, has a great range of movement, and can even have an impact on the goal. He is a very thrilling player, and I believe our followers will adore him.”
“As the head coach, I already have enough to worry about without having to consider the terms of the contracts. I’ll let the club handle that,” he added. “I’ll do my best to provide assistance. Just the prospect of working with him excites me. We’ll all be thrilled if I stay for the balance of his deal!”
